InterGalactic Governing Organization Appoints Jaffe as their Official Poet Laureate

I was just contacted by the InterGalactic Governing Organization (IGGO) that they have appointed me as their official Poet Laureate for the coming 5 years. What an honor! My first action is to make all living poets millionaires. I have already contacted the InterGalactic Monetary Organization (IGMO) to place $1,000,000 in each poet's bank account.

A LOVE SUPREME

Malcom_x_by_bruni

A Love Supreme

It took Coltrane to help me understand Malcolm

(Portrait of Malcom X by Bruni

I put Coltrane’s horn

between my ears

and he riddles them

with exclamation points

Trane twists my insides

until I see outsides

Crying out about pain

and humiliation

Coltrane exhausts

my mind

satisfies soul

Malcolm X

repeats the refrain

his voice melodious

filled with passion

and intelligence

making points

castigating

oppression

in all its hidden

forms

This was Malcolm X

a man accused

of separatism

and egotism

I dug deeper

found a man

who moved

mountains

of Human Rights

with unity and dignity

for all peoples

I don’t think we

understood Malcolm X

we listened to the leaves

and did not embrace

the tree

Before his haj

Malcolm only saw black

after his pilgrimage

he did not see color

only humanity

Unprotected Poetry

Unprotected_poetry_poster

Unprotected Poetry Version 5.0

One of my favorite pieces reborn and revisited yet again!

I had unprotected poetry last night

it was unexpected you know

spontaneous and we did not use anything

we just went at it to keep the mood.

It was incredible but not safe

and now I am worried

cause it can be infectious and dangerous

to say things without a condom.

It could be disastrous to speak without protection

A guy should not have unprotected poetry

he should take more responsibility than that

not just leave it up to the girl.

It was so irresponsible of me

to have unprotected poetry

to not even ask or consult

her about poetry control methods

she might be using or gulp not using.

What if she gets poetically pregnant

and wants to have my poem?

Or what if she has some kind

of poetically transmitted disease

you know PTD  –

and we have to wait

and see what happens

taking regular poetry tests

to see if we’ve got it.

But wow

we actually did it last night –

We had poetry…

How many people

in this day and age

have pure unprotected poetry?

We should be thankful for that

after all it was good poetry

we both really enjoyed it!

We soared like angels

without wings

never coming down

just coming

poetically, that is.

But what a high

to hit that climax

and feel like you

will never be mortal again…

Now that you’ve had

unprotected poetry

who can protect you?

Now that you’ve had

unsafe poetry

and want to do it

again and again

and again…

Cause it don’t feel

the same

with a poetic condom

blocks off the all feeling

and the flow.

And the words

the words

are stopped short

with safe protected poetry

and I will never

write that way again!

Love Nots

Love Nots

Love not

what you see

Love

what you perceive

Embrace being

not facade

Caress soul

not form

Mingle with spirit

not function

Entwine new thoughts…

– An aroma of aphrodisiac

I Will Know Freedom

Mp900400751

I Will Know Freedom

Even

if my eyes

be blind

I will know

Freedom

by her touch.

And even

if my fingers

be bleeding

I will know

Freedom

by her sound.

And even

if my ears

be silent

I will know

Freedom

by her scent.

And even

if my senses

are struck

I will know

Freedom…

Silence Rescued Silence Revealed Silence Restored

Silence Rescued Silence Revealed Silence Restored

In dedication of Holocaust Remembrance Day

Once upon a time

there was a holocaust…

Millions died

because of one man

because of one people

Because of a silence

so unprofound

that people were

caused not to speak

They were cautioned

not to breathe

and whatever faint

breaths they had

were better he

than me

And this silence

grew until

it became a loud noise

And today we

revere that silence

with more silence

And yes

millions are still

easily slaughtered

And economies

of life

are shattered

And people

would rather protest

than live

And still

the silence

remains

And we celebrate

that silence

today

Isn’t it fitting?

My friend Maurice Hogue of CKUW in Winnipeg, Canada recently recorded my poem Miles Showed Me His Trumpet. He compiled a great mix of Miles Work to weave in and around the poem. I am so loving it.

Eve of Construction

Ess_91011_wtcmemorial_480x360
Freedom_tower_new
In 1965, a protest song written by P. F. Sloan called "Eve of Destruction" sung by Barry McGuire hit the airwaves. It was a very profound and direct song for its time. I remember listening to it and wondering how we would ever get out of the mess we were in called Vietnam. But more than that the war of generations was coming to a head. The establishment was no longer something to be blindly obeyed. We questioned everything. And here we are some 46 years later and find ourselved in another fine mess. The economy, the wars, the drugs, even our food has become problematical. Chiildren are silenced with drugs even as babies. Our food is tainted with hormones, antibiotics and genetically modified to such an extent that in many cases it has become indigestible. Big Ammo, Big Agra and Big Pharma are seemingly at war with humanity to drug, under-nourish and kill. What has happened to the integrity of our leaders and ourselves.

Yet I sit here almost optimistic and consider us to be on the Eve of Construction. 10 years after that fateful day in September when the Twin Towers stood no more, we have construction, we have a memorial to those who lost their lives, we have a new tower being built at 1 World Trade Center. We have urban farming empowering people to grow their own healthy food, even in the middle of the city. We have artists using their art to enlighten and invoke peace and harmony.

Yes, there is much to be thankful for and much to create - it is a good create our future, our destiny lies in our hands and if we deliver from the heart and the soul we will succeed. It is a brilliant business, this one to create a better civilization. It is the job of each of us. It is time to end the mockery and the pettiness that envelopes our lives. It is time to reach out to our friends and neighbors and show them who we really are - that humanity is basically good.

We cannot let the bad guys win. We must take it upon ourselves to confront and handle what is wrong and move life forward. I do not mean to preach I just mean to put poetry in the world with a dash of harmony and some beauty. We must sparkle and live our lives to the peak. We must stay loyal to our beliefs. We must seek freedom for all and all for freedom.

We must make it the Eve of Construction.
